Although the role of the car tester has changed a lot during the last years, his job is still vital for the teams. Their work allows engineers to experiment with the latest technology in order to make sure that they have the winning car. The World Series Formula V8 3.5 driver Rene Binder had his first experience as a Formula 1 car tester and, considering his words, he has enjoyed it to the fullest.
Some months ago, Binder explained on Instagram how excited he was about participating in such an experience as he considers it a great opportunity. He has tested a Renault car and the result has been very successful.
At the beginning, Rene was impressed by the Formula 1 car, but little by little he got used to its speed and braking and he started feeling more comfortable. As he explains, the more laps he did, the better the feeling was. One of the things that caught his attention was the wheels, which are Pirelli instead of Michelin as in FV8 3.5 cars, and the tyre heaters. Thanks to this, the warm up procedures were not as important as they usually are in his category. In these tests he used hard tyres, the soft ones, he made simulations of races, long runs… The engineers were very satisfied with his performance.
This way, Rene Binder was included in the list of drivers who have been Formula 1 testers as Alfonso Celis Jr. Who knows if these two drivers could start running in this category in the near future. Sebastian Vettel or Carlos Sainz are some of the other drivers who started in FV8 3.5.
After this great first experience, Rene Binder tries to focus again on the season finale of the competition in which he hopes to get the best results.
